Frequently Asked Questions

1. Chemotherapy and radiation have made my scalp sensitive. Are your hats comfortable?

Yes, fabric is chosen for softness and breathability. The fabric buyer is a cancer survivor and is well aware how sensitive the scalp can become.

2. Are your hats available for children, teens and men?

Yes, they are. Teens, children over five, and men simply choose a fabric they like and then select sizing according to the directions. (Size Selection) Toddler sizes and fabric can be custom ordered if necessary.

3. How do I choose a hat as a gift?

You may call or e-mail us and we will assist you in making your choice. Or you may choose a gift certificate. A Cool Headz Hat makes a thoughtful gift for a friend or loved one. This is especially true if that special someone is going through chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

Gifts are a time-honored way of offering support to someone who faces surgery or other medical issues, but choosing an appropriate gift for a person dealing with the devastating diagnosis of cancer takes particular sensitivity.

A Cool Headz Hat is a perfect gift that acknowledges the very special circumstances facing the person with cancer, but also acknowledges how important it is for that person to retain his or her sense of style—and individuality.

4. Where are your head coverings made?

All hats are made in the state of Washington, USA.

5. Do you ship outside of the United States? How long does shipping take?

We ship to many countries by Global Priority or Global Express.  If your country is not listed in the shipping chart and you would like hats mailed to you, please e-mail us.

6. How do I know what length to choose?

A Cool Headz Hat comes in two lengths: long and short. Both lengths offer full coverage for people experiencing either partial or complete hair loss.
Many customers with large heads choose the short length. Customers with small heads prefer the long length because it adds more volume.  Still some customers look great in both lengths because we all have heads of different shapes.

7. How do I know what size to choose?

The hats come in two sizes: small-medium and medium-large. There is some stretch in each hat so the sizing is “forgiving.” If your head measures 18-22 inches, choose a small-medium,   If you measure 22.1-24.5 choose a medium-large. If your hair is thinning but still full in some places, you might choose one size larger if you are normally a small-medium. Remember, if you need a different size, you may exchange it.  If you need special sizing, please just e-mail us with your head size. Use a tape measure and measure around the largest part of your head.

8. How will I know it is secure to order from Cool Headz Hats?

To make sure your transaction is secure, our shopping cart uses SSL, short for Secure Sockets Layer, which encrypts and safely transmits sensitive data via the Internet. Cool Headz Hats protects your privacy. We do not share customer information (including e-mail addresses) outside of our company.

9. Why do you choose microfleece as one of your fabric choices? Isn’t it too warm to wear indoors?

Microfleece is the softest, most lightweight fleece so it is perfect for around the house or as a nightcap as the weather becomes cooler.  A lightweight, warm hat is essential for people undergoing chemotherapy, as often a drop in blood counts coincides with a case of the sniffles and difficulty in keeping warm.

10. What is coolmaxtm ?

Coolmaxtm is one type of breathable, lightweight fabric that athletes use. It wicks sweat away from your body, thus keeping your body cool. If you work out, a hat made of coolmaxtm would be a good addition to your hat wardrobe.

11. What are your best sellers? How many hats will I need?

Customers find that a fleece hat is great for a sleep cap or cool weather, even indoors. In addition, a solid color that matches most of your wardrobe is a good basic. Also a fun pattern in colors you like helps lift your spirit on those days you need a boost. Some customers also buy a hat for dressy occasions they attend. Often a velvet hat or a black or gray hat with a dressy band and a brooch added works perfectly. The owner found that six hats provided her with enough variety for work, exercise, rest and dress up. Those six also matched her entire wardrobe.

12. How can I change the look of the hat?

In many ways. Look through your jewelry and choose a lightweight brooch to add. Add a hair clip to the hat. Visit stores that sell pins or flowers to embelish the hat. Try styling it in different ways so it sits differently on your head—off to the side perhaps. Over one ear only. See Styling Options .

13. What if I want to reorder a hat and it is sold out. Can I reorder it?

Cool Headz Hats operates more like a boutique than a department store. I buy mostly designer fabric that is available to purchase only after the designers have finished with their season’s designs. Hence, the amount of fabric for sale varies. In addition, I try to offer unique fabric you will not see on other people!

14. Is a printed product catalog available for mailing?

We offer new fabrics so frequently that the printed catalog would be outdated quickly. For this reason customers find it more beneficial to use the product pages in order to receive the most updated information.  Please share these pages with friends who may not have access to the Internet. Or you may e-mail coolheadzhats@yahoo.com or call (206) 829-8088 and we can talk about ways to get the information you need.

15. Can wholesalers purchase from Cool Headz Hats?

Yes, you are encouraged to contact coolheadzhats@yahoo.com

16. What are your return and exchange policies?

Regular items may be returned for a full refund provided the merchandise is returned  with tag intact within 21 days of purchase.

Within 10 days of the invoice date, you may exchange a hat. Please mail it to Cool Headz Hats with the tag intact. We are always happy to talk with you via phone or e-mail about sizing, color, styling or special orders. All “on sale”  items are final and nonrefundable.

17. Why do customers with hair purchase your hats?

They are beautiful. And fashionable. As one artist said ”I like to wear beautiful fabric around my head.”  Another woman bought six hats for her daughter in treatment and then one for herself because she loves hats.
